Manager, Research Funding and Policy Branch, Department of Education and Training
Mr Harold Lomas manages the Research Funding and Policy Branch in the Department of Education and Training. His Branch is responsible for policy development and program management to support research activities in the higher education sector. Activities include bringing together the Education and Training Portfolio’s contribution to the Government’s National Innovation and Science Agenda (NISA); supporting research and research training through the Research Block Grants; managing the department’s relationship with the Australian Research Council (ARC), including contributing to work to develop Australia’s first national assessment of engagement and impact in university research; and measuring the performance of the university research system and working with the research sector to implement the Australian Council of Learned Academies review of Research Training Arrangements.
More generally, Harold has more than twenty years’ experience working in the Australian Public Service, across a range of agencies including departments such as Education, Industry, Health and Prime Minister and Cabinet. Harold is interested in a range of social policy issues including health, aged care and homelessness.
